If you’re not familiar with the website Last.fm, I’d recommend checking it out. If you use your computer to play music at home, or if you use an iPod or other portable MP3 player, the site keeps track of what you listen to and builds a personal music profile for you. You can see what your friends listen to and how musically compatible you are. It’s also a great resource for getting into new bands, as they have artist profiles, a LARGE amount of full tracks that you can listen to (not 30 second samples) and videos.
I’d like to see what you guys are listening to, as I’m always looking for good new music. You can view my profile HERE. If you use the site, feel free to add me to your friends list.
** Update … I just found out that you can create groups on this site, so I made one for members of the Indie Rock Group on Meetup. By joining the group, you can easily connect with the other meetup group members and see what they’re listening to. Even better, the site will create a combined music profile for the group. That sounds pretty cool. Click HERE to view and join the group.
Here is a link to a very positive review of the recent Sonic Youth show on July 17, on the RFT’s Music Blog. Click HERE. You’ll also find photos and a set list. If you’re not familiar with the Riverfront Times Music Blog, A to Z, it’s a pretty good resource for cool music happenings around St. Louis. Check it out.
I was excited to learn that Mew, a really cool band from Denmark, has a new album coming out on August 25. It’s called No More Stories. They also have a new EP that’s out right now, with the same name, that contains two new tracks from the album and a couple of B sides.
If you’re not familiar with Mew, I definitely recommend checking them out. From their profile on Last.fm … The band’s music style is best described as a combination of indie rock and progressive rock (with shoegaze and dream pop influences).
There are lots of full tracks and videos on their Last.fm page.
If you’re a fan of Ra Ra Riot, or Vampire Weekend, or both, than you’ll be excited to know that Wes Miles (singer of Ra Ra Riot) and Rostam Batmanglij (keyboardist / producer of Vampire Weekend) have been working together for some time on a side project called Discovery. They just released their full-length debut album called LP, on July 7.
You can listen to every song, in it’s entirety on their website! http://dscvry.net/
Available for purchase as digital download from Amazon here.
Don’t forget to RSVP for the Ra Ra Riot show on Sept. 20 @ The Firebird.
Welcome to the St. Louis 20’s and 30’s Indie Rock Group Meetup Blog! That’s a mouthful. This is meant to be the corresponding blog for the group website on meetup.com. Here, we’ll post show reviews, cool news and other general things that may be better suited for a blog post … as opposed to using email or the message board on the meetup website.
It’s pretty basic right now, but I hope to improve it over time. I hope you check in every once in a while. If you’re a member of the group, and would like to contribute to the blog, please let me know. Any other suggestions or comments are welcome as well.
